Winning Form Group – Junior Warehouse Picker

Star Merchant is hiring a Junior Warehouse Picker in Umhlanga, Durban. This is a great chance to join our team.

The person in this job will need to pick items from the warehouse based on the picking slip. They will also need to keep bin cards updated when stock arrives or is picked, so there are not many mistakes. Packing stock carefully is also important. The job includes helping the company reach its goals and following all company rules. Accurate and timely reports are needed every day, week, and month to help with making good choices.

Minimum requirements:

  • At least one year of experience in warehouse picking and order fulfillment.
  • Basic numerical skills with the ability to perform calculations accurately.
  • Knowledge of cost-effective packaging techniques to optimize material usage.

Advantageous:

  • Basic computer literacy with the ability to navigate essential systems and software.

Responsibilities:

Financial Metrics/Operational Duties

  • Storing Stock: When new items arrive and are recorded in Pastel Evolution using a Goods Received Voucher (GRV), make sure they are stored in the right places. Check that the items match what’s on the GRV.
  • Selecting Stock: Carefully select the correct amount and type of stock as shown on the picking slip.
  • Faulty Stock: Do not select any faulty stock. If you find damaged items, mark them clearly and tell the Warehouse Supervisor right away.
  • Selecting and Packing: Select and pack stock correctly, following the instructions on the Picking Slip.
  • Checking Orders: If you’re in the dispatch area, double-check that your colleagues have selected the right items and amounts.
  • Updating Stock Records: Keep Stock Cards updated with the correct amounts of stock that has been received or sent out. Do this quickly, clearly, and neatly.
  • Reporting Missing Stock: Immediately inform the Warehouse Supervisor if there are any missing items or differences in stock levels.
  • Taking Delivery of Stock: When helping with receiving stock, confirm that the quality, amount, and paperwork from suppliers are correct.
  • Counting Stock: Help with counting stock each week, making sure it’s done accurately and on time.
  • Checking Stock Each Month: Help to check stock levels every month, ensuring accuracy and completion by the deadline.

Make sure the amount of items coming in and going out is correct; try to have no differences.

  • Keep the warehouse and work spaces clean. Keep aisles tidy, and pack items on shelves in an orderly way.

People Management

  • Performance Tracking: Take responsibility for tracking your performance. Schedule regular performance review meetings with the Warehouse Supervisor/Manager.
    Compliance, risk and quality
  • Company Policies: Ensure 100% compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Health and Safety: Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations at all times.
  • Legal Compliance: Maintain 100% compliance with relevant laws and regulations governing warehouse operations.
  • Record Keeping: Ensure that all work, templates, and related documents are saved logically and accurately. Maintain clear financial records for each year to ensure readiness for inquiries, investigations, or audits.

Growth and New Markets/Products

  • Project Assistance: Provide support for various projects as directed by management.
  • Goal Adherence: Follow measures and steps outlined to achieve the company’s short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals.
