The City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality, Public Safety Department (JMPD) is embarking on a training programme and successful applicants will undergo intense training where they will have an opportunity to become Metropolitan Police Officers.
WHO CAN APPLY?
You must:
- Be a citizen of South Africa.
- Have a Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent qualification.
- Live in the Johannesburg Metropolitan area (you must provide proof of your address).
- Not have a criminal record.
- Agree to give your biometric data and other information so your criminal record can be checked.
- Have a Code B driver’s license (not a learner’s license).
- Be between 18 and 35 years old.
- Be healthy in both body and mind (you need to provide a full medical certificate with your application).
- Be willing to take and pass a fitness test before training.
- Not have any court judgments against you for fraud or corruption.
- Be willing to go through security checks.
- Be good at English.
- Be willing to carry a gun and wear a uniform.

The incumbent should be reliable, honest, have the highest sense of justice and integrity, have a positive attitude, be patient, and be able to work under pressure, under all weather conditions and shift hours.
Terms of Training:
Metro Police Trainees will be expected to undergo 18 months of training, and upon successful completion, will be considered for appointment as Metro Police Officers.
For the duration of the training, trainees will be subjected to the terms of training contracts,
Academy rules, and RTMC training policy. Trainees will receive a stipend as per the City’s Policy.
Upon completion of training:
As a Qualified Metropolitan Police Officer, the incumbent must take the oath of office as determined by the Municipality and will be deployed to any area within the City of Johannesburg.
