OPERATIONS MANAGER (COFFEE INDUSTRY)

Location: Pretoria
Salary: R12 000 – R15 000 Gross (Depending on experience)

Key Responsibilities:

Team Management:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise staff members, including baristas, servers, and kitchen staff.
  • Schedule shifts and allocate tasks effectively to ensure adequate coverage and smooth operations.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and performance feedback to team members to foster a positive work environment and enhance productivity.

Customer Service:

  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by maintaining quality standards, addressing customer concerns, and resolving complaints promptly.
  • Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service and creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests.
  • Monitor customer feedback and implement improvements as needed to enhance the overall customer experience.

Operational Management:

  • Oversee daily operations, including opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and inventory management.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels of coffee beans, supplies, and other items, placing orders as necessary to ensure adequate stock.
  • Implement and enforce health and safety standards, cleanliness protocols, and food safety regulations.
  • Implement mechanisms to prevent theft.

Sales and Profitability:

  • Develop and implement strategies to maximize sales and profitability, such as promotions, upselling techniques, and cost control measures.
  • Analyze sales data, identify trends, and adjust strategies to optimize revenue and achieve financial targets.
  • Monitor expenses and manage budgets effectively to control costs and improve profitability.
  • Conduct regular quality checks to ensure adherence to recipe standards and customer expectations.

Community Engagement and Marketing:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with the local community, neighbouring businesses, and regular customers.
  • Plan and execute marketing initiatives, such as social media campaigns, special events, and loyalty programs, to attract new customers and retain existing ones.
  • Represent the coffee shop at community events and participate in networking opportunities to promote brand awareness and foster goodwill.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, or related field (preferred).
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role within the food and beverage industry, preferably in a coffee shop or café setting.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a passion for creating memorable experiences for guests.
  • Solid understanding of coffee brewing techniques, menu planning, and food safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in POS systems, inventory management software, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of local health and safety regulations and compliance standards.
  • Compulsory Requirements:
  • Must have Driver’s Licence
  • Must have own working car
  • Must be able to work weekends
