This Vacancy involves doing tasks given by a supervisor to keep the workplace safe and clean, and to improve cargo handling.

Position Outputs:

  • Cleaning of operational equipment (such as ship to shore cranes’ windows; cranes’ cabins; etc.)
  • Inspection of container condition
  • Reefer monitoring operations
  • Opening and closing of rail wagons twist-locks
  • Loading off-loading and slacking of cargo in compliance of standard operating procedures
  • Hooking/ unhooking
  • Tarping/ untarping where applicable
  • Place/ remove dunnage
  • Cleaning of operational areas, rail trucks, plant, workshops, offices, sheds and ablution facilities as instructed.
  • Complete applicable documentation i.e. accident reports
  • Identification of correct cargo handling equipment/ gear

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • To be considered for this position – candidates must meet the following minimum educational and experience requirements.
  • There are two pathways to qualification based on Educational Attainment and Practical Experience in a relevant field.

Grade 10 / NQF 02

  • Applicants with a Grade 10 qualification (or equivalent NQF Level 02 certification) may also qualify for consideration.
  • However, these candidates will need to demonstrate a more substantial level of practical experience. Specifically, a minimum of two (2) years of directly relevant ‘Terminal Experience’ is required.

Grade 12 / NQF Level 04

  • Applicants holding a Grade 12 qualification (or equivalent NQF Level 04 certification) must possess a minimum of one (1) year of practical on-the-job experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of this position.
  • This ‘Terminal Experience’ should demonstrate a working knowledge of the required skills and competencies.

Terminal Experience

  • Refers to hands-on, practical experience gained in a work environment. This experience should have equipped the candidate with the necessary skills and understanding to perform the tasks associated with this role effectively.
  • While formal qualifications are valued, significant practical experience can be considered as a substitute to some extent, acknowledging the value of learning and development gained through on-the-job training.
  • In the case of candidates with certificates or no formal qualifications beyond Grade 10, the number of years of relevant experience will be carefully evaluated to determine equivalency and suitability for the position.
  • The hiring manager reserves the right to request further information or conduct practical assessments to validate the applicant’s claimed experience and skill level.
